Surveying Teams and Technical Support for Stations, Viaducts and Tunnels
YAZ Development for Surveying & Contracting contributed to the construction of Riyadh Metro through the provision of more than 30 surveying teams, supported by survey technical office capabilities, within the FAST Consortium package covering Line 4 (Yellow), Line 5 (Green) and Line 6 (Purple).
Working with Samsung C&T, Strukton and Freyssinet Saudi Arabia, YAZ provided surveying support across diverse project elements, including surface works, stations, elevated viaducts, underground tunnels and tunnel boring machine (TBM) activities, within its assigned scopes.
YAZ’s involvement connected field surveying with technical office support, translating engineering drawings into setting-out data, maintaining coordinate and elevation control, and verifying completed works.
Field Surveying Scope

Survey Control, Alignments and Levels
Establishment, densification and verification of survey control points and benchmarks required for assigned works, tying field measurements to the project reference system and supporting alignment and level continuity between work areas.

Stations and Structural Works
Setting-out and verification of structural positions and elevations within stations and associated work areas, including grids, foundations, columns, walls and slabs within YAZ’s scope.

Elevated Viaducts
Surveying support for viaduct construction, including alignment, position and elevation control, geometric measurements for bridge elements and segment installation, and survey verification during construction.

Tunnels and TBM Activities
Surveying teams and technical support for underground works, including the transfer and connection of surface and underground survey control, alignment and level checks, and survey measurements associated with TBM excavation activities within assigned tasks.

Surface Alignments and Associated Civil Works
Setting-out of alignments, coordinates and elevations, supporting excavation, filling, grading and associated structures along metro corridors, with checks on geometric continuity between adjoining work areas.

As-Built Surveying
Measurement of completed works, verification of positions and elevations against drawings, and preparation of survey data for technical review and as-built documentation.
Survey Technical Office Support
YAZ’s technical office supported field teams through:
- Review of drawings and extraction of coordinates, elevations and setting-out information.
- Preparation of point schedules and survey data files for field execution.
- Processing of field observations, survey calculations and data consistency checks.
- Preparation of survey drawings, reports and as-built data within the assigned scope.
- Comparison of field measurements with design information and identification of deviations for technical review.
- Coordination with construction, quality and technical teams on alignments, levels and drawing revisions.
Experience Across Surface, Elevated and Underground Construction
YAZ’s involvement in Riyadh Metro demonstrates its capacity to provide surveying teams for a multidisciplinary urban transport project involving international contractors and concurrent construction work fronts.
