MEP laser scanning and clash detection

MEP laser scanning captures the pipes, ducts and cable routes inside a building, so new design can be checked for clashes against what is really there. YAZ Development scans interiors and supplies point clouds and models for clash checks.

When you need it

  • Retrofit of plant rooms and risers
  • Checking new MEP design against existing services
  • Locating as-built pipes and ducts
  • Reducing rework from clashes found late

How a clash-detection job runs

  1. Agree areas and the design to check
  2. Scan the interiors
  3. Register and model existing services
  4. Run clash checks and report

What you receive

Registered point cloud, model of existing services, and a clash report in an agreed format.

Instruments we use

Capture uses the Leica RTC360 and Trimble X7 terrestrial laser scanners, tied to survey control by Leica and Trimble total stations and GNSS.

Common questions

What is clash detection?

It compares the design with what exists, or discipline models with each other, to find where elements occupy the same space.

Why scan before designing a retrofit?

Existing drawings are often out of date, and scanned data shows services where they actually are.
